For the next two reviews we decided to visit one of the most astonishing cities Germany has: Hamburg. Three days, two different hotels and we will bring you the best and the worst of both .
The first hotel was the Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall. Located side by side with the main channel of Hamburg, this Sofitel is just 15min walking from the main train station and with good weather (it was amazing in the weekend we went) just the travel to the hotel is enough to admire the beauty of the city.
As usually seen in the Sofitels, design and sophistication are the main words to describe this hotel. We paid around 260euros just to have a view of the Alster lake but, unfortunately, this price is not enough to also have breakfast (you need to pay 29e extra per person to have the buffet breakfast).
The room was spacious with, what we can perfectly say, the best bed we ever slept. Really soft mattress, it was just soooo relaxing…!
This price gave us a room in the 3rd floor (not that great) and the view to the channel was nice, but nothing overwhelming.
As also normal, the room design was elegant and fashion with a Bose sound system, a Nespresso machine including free coffee and a well filled mini bar. The bathroom was both a bathtub and a shower. The last one was quite large, but the water flux could be stronger and the floor was really slippery. If we talk about privacy, this bathroom was much more discrete (and for us nice) when compared to the Munich Sofitel one.
To give a full review we went both to the spa area and we paid 58e for our breakfast.
Let’s start with the spa: a sort of Déjà vu feeling. There’s a specific elevator to the spa area which is similar to the Munich Sofitel, but with a smaller pool. It was an acceptable spa area and, since it is free, you can just relax after a day visit this amazing city.
Now regarding the breakfast, we just have to say that it makes no sense that the room does not have a view to the channel – small details make the difference. The price, once again, makes no sense. Yes, you have a nice continental breakfast and all of that, but not worthy almost 30e/person.
To finish, just to say that the staff was really helpful, calling a cab, carrying our luggage and they even offered to configure the internet in your iPhones. It is a Must Go Hotel in a Most Go German city.
